LAUNCHING A NEW SOFTWARE PACKAGE FOR AN ELECTRONICS GIANT

RS Components supplies electrical and electronic components, tools, testing equipment and related items through the internet, catalogues and at trade counters. We’ve been crafting creative campaigns to help RS Components and its online engineering and design community, DesignSpark, raise their online profile, launch and promote their free design tools and resources since 2013.

Our award-winning work for RS Components and DesignSpark includes campaign planning, creative concepts, social media management, microsite development, PR and event management. All this is fuelled and optimised by a comprehensive analytics and reporting programme that runs throughout all our marketing activity.

powerhack

Think | Prototype | Innovate – Power Hack

Conceived and executed to raise awareness of DesignSpark’s unique suite of rapid prototyping tools and to encourage downloads and updates of this newly updated software.

The campaign focus was our Power Hack hackathon – a two-day live-streamed event held in partnership with Practical Action, a charity that uses technology to challenge poverty across the globe.

 

 

The event, which we designed and executed, brought 15 of the world’s leading engineers and designers together at Google UK – a venue synonymous with technical innovation and creativity – with the aim of designing sustainable solutions to help combat global energy poverty.

  • Creation of a wide range of campaign content, from brand animations and press and online banner ads, to event videos and social image galleries
  • Broadcasting the Power Hack event using live streaming, dedicated film and social teams while encouraging event participants to take part in the social conversation.
  • The Power Hack hackathon provided a story for the campaign, involving a recognisable charity, celebrity advocates (C4 News’ Jon Snow and The Gadget Show’s Ortis Deley)
  • Producing a comprehensive analytics strategy to monitor every aspect of the campaign, from social content to email conversions.

Gift of Invention – DesignSpark Mechanical launch

Tasked with the global launch of the DesignSpark Mechanical 3D design tool, we put 25 of the world’s leading design engineers in a room at Manchester’s Museum of Science and Industry, and challenged them to change the world in 48 hours using the DesignSpark Mechanical 3D design tool. In tandem with the event, we coordinated the launch of the software itself. This included a social media campaign, online PR programme, online and offline advertising and branded materials for the press launch to promote downloads and software trial with design engineers.

  • 150,000 downloads to date
  • 6,000 social clicks on campaign content
  • 92 countries reached
  • Content coverage in major trade publications and national news
  • ‘Best Product Launch we’ve ever done’, with demonstrable ROI

Switch to DesignSpark Electrical

Our print and email campaign for the launch of DesignSpark’s new Electrical tool met the project’s 12-month download objectives within the first month!

By getting under the skin of machine and panel builders we were able to create truly compelling content for this campaign, including animations, print ads and highly targeted email communications.

Over 12,000 downloads in week 1 of the campaign – that’s the 12-month target for the launch!
