This week marks the National Allotment Garden’s 5th annual ‘National Allotments Week’, and to celebrate, Freestylers have been enjoying the first fruits – and veg – of their labour with a crop of beetroot, runner beans and courgettes, down on the 'Freestyle Farm'.
All over the country allotmenteers join the NAG in promoting the health, education, well-being and community benefits of being involved in an allotment.
Freestyle Farmers Phil Ainsworth, Paul Beacham and Debbie Stead have been watching the allotment grow since back in May when the first spade went in the ground, and are very pleased with the results:
"I can't believe it grows so much in just a few days, it changes every time I see it."
Phil
"We work with computers all day so it’s good to get outside at lunchtime. It’s been great to watch it go from just bare earth to the enormous plants we have now!"
Debbie
"It was hard work at first but it’s really rewarding! Looking forward to developing the plot next year."
Paul
