Freestyle Interactive advises Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust on social media strategy.
Freestyle works with some major sports stars, like Olympic swimmers Rebecca Adlington, Keri-Anne Payne & Alan Rapley, helping them connect with fans through social media. So when we were asked to speak at the annual Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust (DKHLT) National Conference we jumped in with both feet (pardon the pun).
DKHLT helps young people, bringing them together with Olympians, Paralympians & elite athletes from all kinds of sports, who give their time to help underprivileged youngsters with their personal development. As well as this, they also support elite athletes, helping them with the skills and contacts they’ll need in life and business after sport.
We ran a workshop with 30 elite athletes from the DKHLT on best practice use of social media channels, and in particular Twitter, as a way to connect with sports fans and business audiences.
The course covered some basic dos & don’ts, like how to avoid becoming the next ‘Footballer slags off rivals on Twitter’ story in the Daily Mail, as well as how to build trust and authority in a chosen subject, building groups of influential followers, and converting all this into something meaningful to a business.
