Andy Wood – Strategy Director
Andy started out in digital in 1997, fresh from a Classics degree at Warwick University. Back then there were barely 40 million people online (globally!) and Andy called what he was doing Internet & New Media - the New Media bit designed to cover anything there wasn’t a name for yet! He chose a Classics degree because he wanted to study as many subjects as possible (Literature, Languages, History, Philosophy and Architecture) which translated well in his early days at Ford Europe. Monday would be about European eCRM strategies, Tuesdays spent trying to figure out a workable e-commerce model for cars online, Wednesdays explaining to senior execs why a spinning logo on a homepage wasn’t a great idea...in those days there was no such thing as an Information Architect & ‘social’ meant a few pints in Brentwood after work.
At that time, working for a blue chip corporate was a lot of fun for Andy. Companies like Ford were really quick to see where digital was headed & certainly not shy to invest budgets and the best talent, to get ‘stuck in’ and just try stuff out; the essence of what those early days were all about. After an early baptism of fire, Andy switched sides and he’s been in agency world since 2000; in Europe, London and now with Freestyle, where he says he’s found his spiritual home. As Strategy Director it’s Andy’s job to develop effective digital strategies for our clients and to make sure as an agency the service offer continues to lead the way.
Andy’s extremely proud of Freestyle’s ability to provide a great working environment, with specialists delivering high calibre work for an international client base, and a team of real people he can have a genuine relationship with.
For fun Andy enjoys a bit of sports-bike racing, occasional motocross & being a Leicester boy he’s still got his Leicester Tigers season ticket. He also fancies himself an amateur mixologist and is always on the lookout for any weird or wonderful recipes to try out. So if you’re passing by, pop in and share a drink!
Andy says:
“The world’s a very different place nowadays; in no small part due to the impact digital media has and continues to have on all our lives. It feels significant to be living through such an important cultural watershed (you’d better believe the digitisation of our world is that significant) and of course we’re only just beginning to realise the potential impact on art, science, news, commerce, love and life. The best part is we get to come to work every day & play a part in the next installment!”
